Venue for the 12th International Penguin Conference 2026

Berninneit, Cowes

The 12th International Penguin Conference will be held at Berninneit, the newly opened cultural and community centre located in the heart of Cowes, Phillip Island. Named after the Bunurong word meaning “gather together,” Berninneit is a striking new landmark that reflects both the rich cultural heritage and vibrant future of the island.

This purpose-built venue stands as a symbol of community connection, artistic expression, and education. As Phillip Island continues to attract global attention for its unique wildlife, including the world-famous Penguin Parade, Berninneit adds a dynamic and modern facility that enhances the island’s reputation as a hub for research, tourism, and cultural exchange.

Berninneit houses a 260-seat theatre, library, gallery, museum, and flexible community spaces, all designed to foster collaboration and creativity. The theatre will serve as a central gathering point for keynote sessions, while the gallery and museum spaces celebrate both contemporary and Indigenous art and culture.

As the newest addition to Phillip Island’s offerings, Berninneit provides the perfect setting for a conference dedicated to environmental science and species conservation, honouring the island’s natural beauty while supporting the global scientific community.
