The Best Presentation Categories is a tribute to late Professor Mike Cullen and his extraordinary legacy to little penguins in Victoria and, more broadly, to penguins worldwide. Mike was a true pioneer of penguin research in Australia. His early studies on little penguins at Phillip Island set the scientific foundations for the conservation and long-term monitoring programme that continues to this day. Without his vision and dedication and the ongoing partnership with Monash, little penguin research and conservation at Phillip Island would not have achieved the global recognition it now enjoys. Today, Phillip Island holds the world’s largest colony of little penguins, with the St Kilda penguins being the fastest-growing colony for the species, both with the science blueprint of Mike Cullen. Read this heartfelt piece written by his former students, John Krebs and Richard Dawkins!
