Hugh Possingham

Professor Hugh Possingham FAA FNAS FRS is a distinguished conservation biologist and mathematician, renowned for his pioneering work in ecology, threatened species and conservation planning. He has held key academic and leadership roles, including Queensland Chief Scientist and Chief Scientist at The Nature Conservancy (USA). Hugh co-developed the influential Marxan software used globally for systematic conservation planning and has published over 760 peer-reviewed scientific papers. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, the Royal Society, and a foreign associate of the US National Academy of Sciences, reflecting his significant contributions to environmental research and policy.
